Oral Surgery FAQ

Oral Surgery FAQs

When oral surgery is necessary, it’s common to have questions about the procedure, associated fees, and experience of the surgeon performing your surgery.  At Fioritto Family Dental, our surgeons are always happy to answer your questions and address all of your concerns.  Listed below, are answers to commonly asked questions about oral surgery.

Do I have to go somewhere else for oral surgery?

No.  At Fioritto Family Dental, we have trusted and highly experienced surgeons on staff for your comfort and convenience.

How much does oral surgery cost?

The cost of oral surgery depends on the procedure being performed and the complexity of your particular case.  Your insurance may cover a portion of your procedure.  The dental staff will gladly discuss all anticipated costs prior to your procedure so you can make an informed decision.

Do I need local or IV sedation?

Many oral surgeries can be performed using only local anesthesia.  If you require IV sedation, our dentist will help you understand what to expect, and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Is IV sedation safe?

Prior to your dental procedure, our highly trained and experienced doctors will determine if you’re a good candidate for IV sedation. Our dental team does everything possible to mitigate risk.  No surgical procedure is entirely risk-free, but your health and safety are our top concerns. We carefully monitor and adjust the medications throughout your procedure to minimize risk.

Can you help with my dental anxiety?

We want to ensure your comfort throughout any dental procedure, including oral surgery. We’re happy to offer a variety of sedation options to help you overcome your dental anxiety.

How long is recovery?

While advances in surgical techniques have led to shorter recovery times, your rate of healing will depend on several factors, including:

  • The actual procedure performed
  • Your overall state of health
  • How well you follow aftercare instructions.
  • Whether or not you are a smoker.  Smoking adversely impacts recovery time.

Following an oral surgery procedure, you may need a few days of rest.  Full recovery can take 1-2 weeks.  If you experience any post-operative discomfort or infection, contact the team at Fioritto Family Dental.  We are here to ensure your health and well-being.
