Dental Veneers
A brilliant smile is one of the best means for a great first impression; especially when you’re interviewing for a job or meeting new friends. Unsightly chips, cracks, discoloration, or misalignment can certainly be unfavorable. Dental veneers can transform that!
There are solutions to treat these problems, but you may not be keen to spending months and untold resources straightening, whitening, and repairing your teeth. You may have also have issues that can’t be easily resolved, such as internal staining caused by medications such as tetracycline, for example.
If you’re looking for an expedient and long-lasting means of improving your entire smile, Fioritto Family Dental is happy to discuss the possibility of veneers with you. What are veneers and what can you expect when you get them?
What are Veneers?
Veneers provide an all-around smile makeover that can address a variety of embarrassing cosmetic concerns. Whether you’re dealing with crooked, overlapping, gapped, or discoloration; or maybe your teeth are worn, chipped, or cracked, veneers can save the day with an instant upgrade to the straight, beautiful smile you’ve always dreamed of.
Veneers are comprised of a thin sheet of porcelain or composite resin that is custom made to fit over existing teeth. It’s important to understand the process of applying veneers, as these permanent fixtures are not reversible.
First, your existing teeth will be prepared by removing enamel from the front and sides to accommodate the veneer strip. This cannot be undone, so you need to be sure you want veneers before you get started. A preview with 3D imaging or even a temporary overlay can help you decide if veneers are right for you.
Once tooth enamel has been removed, impressions will be taken in order to create your custom veneers. Thereafter, you’ll be fitted with a temporary cover to protect your teeth. Within two weeks, your veneers will be ready for placement. Our dentists will fit and adjust them to ensure your satisfaction before bonding them to the remaining tooth surfaces.
Life with Veneers
With proper care, dental veneers typically last up to fifteen years, or possibly longer. Although veneers are designed to be resilient, you’ll want to avoid biting down on anything hard, from ice cubes and candy, to pen caps and fingernails.
Proper oral hygiene is also essential for avoiding tooth decay and gum disease that could compromise remaining teeth and the integrity of your veneers. Brushing and flossing twice daily is essential to maintaining good oral health.
