Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation

At Fioritto Family Dental, your comfort is a top priority, which is why our trained and experienced team is happy to offer sedation dentistry to patients suffering from dental anxiety.  Some patients get a mild case of nerves when visiting the dentist, while others experience much more pronounced anxiety.

In some cases, these feelings may hold you back from scheduling visits for regular dental care like cleaning, examination, and x-rays.  You might even forego treatments to improve your oral health because of your dental anxiety.

When you partner with Fioritto Family Dental, you have nothing to fear.  Our dental team is highly trained to administer oral sedation to ensure total comfort during procedures and complete confidence in the care you receive.  What can you expect when you choose oral sedation dental anxiety treatment?

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Some patients are perfectly comfortable remaining awake and alert during dental procedures.  Others, through no fault of their own, experience anxiety that can make it difficult to sit through even simple procedures like a dental cleaning.

Sedation dentistry offers a new experience for patients dealing with dental anxiety.  Fioritto Family Dental provides three options to increase comfort and relaxation for patients: Intravenous (IV), inhaled, and oral sedation dental anxiety treatment.

IV sedation is administered intravenously and sedation takes effect immediately.  It will relax you to the point of entering a twilight state or even drifting to sleep during treatment.  Your IV will be closely monitored and adjusted by one of our trained professionals throughout treatment for your comfort and safety.  Some patients like this method of sedation because it can have an amnesiac effect that leaves you with little memory of your procedure.

Inhaled sedation, or nitrous oxide, is delivered via a nasal hood as part of an oxygen mixture.  It induces a relaxed and happy state while leaving you fully alert to interact with our dentists and hygienists.  It also wears off quickly following treatment so you can return to normal activities.

Oral sedation comes in a pill form to be taken by mouth.  Patients who would rather avoid needles find this method preferable to IV sedation.  Safety is our main concern when administering sedation, and oral sedatives and anxiolytic (anxiety-dissolving) medications have undergone extensive research and testing over the years to ensure safety and efficacy.

While you will remain conscious during treatment, you will feel relaxed and your anxieties will melt away.  Many oral sedatives also have amnesiac properties so you may remember very little about your treatment.
